Episode Notes

In depth: A naval yard calls Eagle in the air to report an attack by Overlord. Overlord sends Dire and Rawmeat out of Intruder to board a submarine. It's surface defenses are destroyed and Rawmeat activates a Zone Pod to prevent them from diving and escaping. Dire notes they will need the sailors, as the sub is not computer controlled like the carrier. Overlord then dispatches another Zone Pod, zoning the entire area. The base's guns then damage Eagle, which starts a crash landing, which Ned aims for the generator. It is destroyed along with Eagle's capability for Flight. Intruder launches missiles at the carrier, scoring direct hits. Overlord has captured two vessels of the United States Navy: the carrier U.S.S. Constitution and the submarine U.S.S. Tigershark.

Eagle is towed away for repair while the Zone Riders pursue on a hovercraft. Overlord commands to build operation "Zone Wall" in which self defending floating Zone Generators will block the United States from Europe. One of the generators begins firing missiles at the hovercraft. Max decides to ride out on cycle to distract it. It destroys Max's cycle but Tank destroys the generator with the Zone missile launcher backpack. Then, a torpedo is launched from the Tigershark at the hovercraft. Courage detonates it with a needler and races overhead of the sub. Ned swims down to the submarine and makes enough noise to make them surface. They board the sub and confront Dire and Rawmeat, who takes a hostage. They disarm them, and Ben wants to take apart the mini zone generator, but it is booby trapped and has to be thrown overboard by Tucker. As they begin to leave in the sub, Max wants to follow in the hovercraft, having "not signed up for submarine service."

On the bridge, Dire believes Overlord won't attack because she is on board. Courage then proves her wrong as Intruder drops depth charges. One more hit and they're finished, Franklin reports. After another run, oil and debris surfaces, and in the sub they elude the plane. On the sub meanwhile, Rawmeat gives Dire an idea. She calls in the guard saying something's wrong, and Rawmeat drops in from above him, knocking him out. Dire and Rawmeat escape to a smaller submarine which they launch from Tigershark. With no choice, the Zone Riders must sink the Constitution. However, the torpedoes won't launch without the firing circuitry Duchess Dire stole from the submarine. Dirk then asks if the submarine is equipped for ramming (?!?!) and she responds that it is, but must be above water. Courage orders it to be taken to just below the surface and he exits the ship via torpedo tube and grasps the periscope. He then orders the sub to ram the aircraft carrier. It penetrates the hull (WHAT?) and they enter the Carrier.

They then seize fire control and fire upon the Black Widows on deck and send the Zone Riders up on the aircraft elevator. An electrical explosion in the ammunition magazine causes extreme damage to the hull. Kat decides to level the deck with controlled flooding. As Ben opens a compartment, he is swept away. Max goes below decks to rescue him, entering an electrical conduit. Max rescues him and heads to the bridge with O'Malley, who activates the catapults to trip up the Black Widows. Overlord commands the Widows to retreat to Intruder to escape while Ned is to fly the Zone Riders out of the area aboard a jet powered transport plane. It barely makes the takeoff but returns to shore. Tigershark needs repairs but is OK overall once repaired. Dirk tells the General that the Zone Riders "dealt with sub duty.

Items Noticed: Constitutions number is given as CVN-95.

Notes: Rawmeat makes reference to his Overhead Cam 6 automobile once more, a nice touch of continuity with his first appearance in the Smoky Mountains.

Note the rifle being held by a sailor covering Duchess Dire on the sub: it appears to be very similar to a Mospeada Legioss/Robotech Alpha Fighter rifle. Perhaps the animator had one near by for inspiration when drawing?

What do we learn? Crook hope to some day rule Europe under Overlord to settle some old scores.

Enclosed spaces make Max nervous (claustrophobia), especially underwater.

Captain O'Malley commands the U.S.S. Tigershark, and began her naval career on the Constitution.

Goof ups: If they're rigged for silent running, how does Intruder find them to drop depth charges?

Submarines aren't equipped to ram anything but ice floes when they're up near the North Pole. A horrible lack of realism for SPIRAL ZONE.

What is the possible hurry to get Ben out? He's in an airtight suit! It's been shown before Zone Riders can survive short bouts underwater. Ben's just a wuss.

Quotable Quotes: " Mmm (eating a sandwich), that's good. Want some?" - Rawmeat
"That's not fit for a pig! No, no maybe it IS fit for a pig!" - Duchess

"Top floor coming up: Lowlifes, scum and other assorted bad guys." - Max Jones using the elevator.
