 General
McFarland returns home after work to find two dreaded events:
his own birthday, and a clip episode! Episode
                    NotesWritten
                    by J. Cole Weston
 In
depth: On M.C.C.'s base housing, General McFarland walks home
from work and unlocks the door. When no one appears inside,
he draws his needler and proceeds inside. When the Zone Riders
come out with a birthday cake, McFarland quickly blasts it.
The General references the time that the Black Widows broke
into his house before, and we see a flashback to "Small
Packages" in which they attack. After the flashback,
Ned Tucker reveals that he once took a shot at the General,
indirectly. We then flashback to when Tucker was on the firing
course in "The Last One Picked" in which he accidentally
blasts McFarland's target. The General notes the new target
looks like Tucker instead of McFarland. Kat then recalls "Small
Packages" when M.C.C. was zoned. Dirk then flashes back
to the conversation he had in "Small Packages" about
families with the General. Hiro recalls General McFarland
is a martial artist of the old fashioned kind, in which we
flashback to "When the Cat's Away" and Overlord
gasses a hospital and McFarland bests Overlord in hand to
hand combat. After an extended clip, Hiro wants to learn the
technique he used against Overlord. They then remember when
McFarland didn't want to reveal that Courage was crashed in
the Zone in "Zone of Fear". After the clip, McFarland
wishes Overlord hadn't escaped. Amy notes Steven doesn't mind
fighting Overlord, it's sending others out to risk their lives
that bothers him. Then a clip from the episode with the Zone
Riders freeing Montreal for wheat supplies airs. McFarland
recalls he doesn't want to be what Overlord called him - a
desktop General. Amy puts Sarah to bed, when Max notices Tank
has let his ice cream melt. Tank angrily wonders why they
are playing birthday games in the middle of a war. It is also
Tank's son Joseph's birthday. He's 11 and Tank is distraught.
Dirk promises him that the SPIRAL
                    ZONE
                    won't last forever. Items
Noticed: Check out that crazy outfit on Kat. An orange beret?!?!
Future fashions are a little bizarre - it appears Dirk is
                    wearing a cape! Notes:
Ahh the first of the dreaded clips episodes. Leave it to Mark
Edens however to make a touching subplot about the realities
of living in wartime to salvage what is otherwise an episode
                    watched on fast forward. What
do we learn? Steven Q. McFarland's wife's name is Amy, and
his daughter's name is Sarah. Joseph
is 11 years old, meaning he was born to Tank and Gabrielle
in 1996, when Tank was only 21 years old. Referencing his
file, this is highly likely the reason why Tank left Munich
University to joined the Armed Services - to support his wife
                    and child. Goof
                    ups: None. Quotable
Quotes: " Joseph is eleven today. Do you think he even
knows what day it is?!?" - Tank, referencing his son
                    in the Zone.
