In
depth: The Zone Riders cruise over the water in the Mediterranean
with Ned in Helipack. Bandit orders a Black Widow attack as
they break through the perimeter. Overlord is sending reinforcements
he says to Bandit. Sledge Hammer tanks ride out to meet the
foe. Dirk reveals that they are after Dr. Mikhail Gregory,
and he must be rescued from Overlord no matter the cost. Ned
and Dirk are going to make a run for the base. Kat and Tank
must keep the Widows occupied. Tank blows up a boat or two
of Zoners as the artillery lasers begin to fire on Ned and
Dirk, who pull out. Ned pulls Courage from Rimfire as the
vehicle smashes into the tanks. Dirk determines they cannot
best the defenses and they must retreat from the zone.
Inside, Dr. Gregory has completed his experiments and brings
something to Overlord. On Eagle, they radio M.C.C. who reveals
Dr. Laurence has a rare virus only Gregory can cure. Without
him, Laurence has hours or days remaining. The Zone Riders
don't believe Overlord knows of Gregory's importance. But
the strength of the defenses is too much. Ben suggests people
are the weakest link in any defense and goes over the personnel
profiles of the Black Widows. Courage thinks he's grasping
at straws. Ben brings up Bandits file, showing that his brother
Mustafa vanished in the Desert Wars and hasn't been seen since.
Kat notes that Ned and Mustafa look very similar.
Overlord is to attack the unzoned portion of Istanbul in the
morning, a critical piece of the plan for world domination.
Bandit seems distracted and far away, and Overlord asks what
he is distracted by. Bandit says he and his brother were children
here (Turkey). Overlord reminds him Mustafa is gone and to
keep focused. A zoner brings Bandit a scrambled message from
Morocco. It's a cube and Bandit believes it must be from his
old terrorist network. It is a man named Abdullah who swears
Mustafa is alive and at the Kasbah in Morocco. Overlord forbids
the trip, saying he needs Bandit, while the other man quietly
fumes.
Bandit leaves on Sledge Hammer and disobeys Overlord's orders.
The other Black Widows are sent to retrieve him. Abdullah
takes Bandit to the rug merchant's house where Mustafa is
hiding and is paid by Bandit. Mustafa is in bed, apparently
ailing. Habib, a doctor assists him, and says the A917 virus
affects Mustafa
and that only Gregory can save Mustafa.
Just then Crook and Razorback break in via Sledge Hammer tanks
to drag Bandit back to Overlord. Crook orders them to all
move out. Bandit grabs Mustafa as Max and the Zone Riders
attack. Bandit runs for it with Habib. Rawmeat wants to chase
him, but Razorback points out Bandit's not shooting at them
but the Zone Riders are. Bandit, Mustafa and Habib get on
a tank and escape as the Zone Riders keep the Black Widows
pinned down as they decide to withdraw. The Zone Riders let
them go, since if Crook doesn't come back, they will improve
the defenses.
Bandit is obsessed with curing his brother. As he leaves,
Mustafa is Ned in disguise and Habib is Courage. They've used
vocal modifiers and disguises. Bandit meanwhile climbs a rope
towards Overlord's Mediterranean hideout, evading capture.
Dire is on recon and says the radar pickup they had must have
been in error. Overlord sends Crook again to get Bandit, and
this time accompanies them. Bandit is outside the base and
sneaks in past the zoner guards. Bandit reaches Dr. Gregory
and kidnaps him, escaping down the rope and then leaving on
a Sledge Hammer. Dire radios Overlord that Bandit is near
and Overlord leads the pursuit personally. They leave the
zone and the doctor is unzoned by tied up. Now its dawn, and
Overlord curses Bandit that his plans for attacking Istanbul
are ruined. The Zone Riders attack in force both Bandit and
the Black Widows. Bandit explains what's going on to Dr. Gregory.
Bandit breaks into the room where Mustafa was only to find
Ned Tucker. Ned reveals the trick and the motive to save Dr.
Laurence. Bandit grabs a needler as he distracts Ned and runs
for it in a Sledge Hammer tank. Dr. Gregory says to let him
go - there is no time to waste to get to Dr. Laurence. Stuck
in battle with the Black Widows, Ben has an idea. He has the
Zone Riders fire at a precise location causing a massive wave
which overtakes Overlord. Bandit appears and rescues Overlord
from the wreck. Overlord forgives his desertion because he
saved him
this time.
At M.C.C. Dr. Laurence is recovering and doing well. Ned feels
a bit sorry for Bandit. Tank points out that he did love his
brother. Dirk thinks Bandit might have been a great man if
his love extended to others. Bandit swears vengeance for Mustafa
as he weeps alone.
