In depth: The Zone Riders, having just destroyed a generator are in the air in Eagle. San Christobel, a cruise ship is heading with refugees to the Panama Canal. Overlord plots to destroy the canal to cripple North and South America. He sends a force of Black Widows and Zoners to accomplish this. The Zone Riders deploy along the canal to guard the area. Max who is on the ship, runs into his friend Jane whom he hasn't seen in some time. She is helping the UN with the refugees transported on the boat from the Caribbean Islands. Max reconnoiters the ship to find Overlord's presence, but finds nothing.

On the bridge, the Captain and crew are stunned by Razorback's blasts, and he ordered all ahead full from Reaper in the engine room. Reaper cuts open the hull and uses a Zone cannon to zone one of the control towers. With the other Zone Riders cut off, only Max can stop Overlord now. Just then, a Zone Generator emerges from the hull. Almost crushed by the hull, Max gets them down to below decks, losing a boot in the process. As Max storms the bridge, Reaper and Razorback retreat in a boat. Max discovers a bomb on board the boat. The Black Widows jam the lochs behind the ship so it cannot escape and flee with Sledge Hammers. The Zone Riders discover with the bomb that Overlord's attempt was always to destroy rather than capture the canal.

Courage floods the lochs so the ship can pass through quickly rather than offload the refugees in the middle of the loch. Hiro and Kat attack the control house with the Black Widows offering resistance. They get through the next loch with two to go. Unfortunately Overlord blasts the last loch's controls. Courage decides to blow the power plant and loch so they can get through. Having evacuated the refugees earlier on boats, the ship sails through and causes minimal damage to the canal. Back at the recovery center, Max tries to make a date with Jane, but the Zone Riders are called away again to South America that night.

Items Noticed: At 10:15-16, one can see the padding of Max's helmet where it keeps an air tight seal. Little touches like this are the mark of the better animation studios animating an episode.

The Zone Riders' suits encompass even the feet, and apparently the loss of a boot will not compromise the suit.

The scene in which Overlord blasts the controls is another signal of a good animation studio - look inside the panel - it's riddled with complex debris that was carefully animated. Brilliant work!

Notes: Is it just me, or does the little kid at the table with Jane after the battle sound exactly like Orko from He-Man?

"No time for love, Lt. Jones!" - shut down by Commander Courage when trying to get a date. Man, this war's rough all over, isn't it?

What do we learn? Jane asks about Louise Jones, Max's sister. Like the rest of his family, they are all lost in the SPIRAL ZONE as per his file card that came with the toy.

Louise and Jane were best friends before the Zone.

Goof ups: Max reports "less than a minute and a half Commander!" when the clock clearly reads 1:41.

Quotable Quotes: "Your plan was foolproof, Overlord!" - Razorback
"Even though it was implemented by fools!" - Bandit
"Watching this is worth all the battles lost to Courage and his Zone Riders!" - Overlord, apparently figuring out how things go after a mere 22 episodes
