Episode Summary
A
malfunctioning Zone Pod is discovered in a small Russian village
and the race is on to see who can get to it first. The matter
is complicated by the fact that the village is Kat's hometown
and her mother still resides there. But if the Zone Riders
can salvage the Zone Pod, Dr. Lawrence may be able to find
a way to neutralize the Zone Generators. However, it's a risky
mission with a high probability that the Zone Pod will either
self-destruct or Zone the entire population of the village!
Episode
Notes
Another
well thought out episode that makes reference to Overlord's
initial SPIRAL ZONE attack. I found
it really interesting the way the Zone Pod was animated as
it activated. It almost seemed alive as if it was "pupating"
into a Zone Generator (especially as the growing "legs"
of the Zone Pod seized Tank and wouldn't let him go when he
was trying to attach a detonator). I always thought the Zone
Generators looked sinister and seeing this Zone Pod transform
into one reinforces that even further.
Once again the viewer also gets a good laugh watching Overlord's
subordinates argue and trying to "one-up" one another,
attempting to impress their leader (it's almost like watching
competing siblings trying to curry favor with their father).
This is a sharp contrast from, say, The Transformers,
where often, a lot of the lower rank Decepticons would try
to gain power at the expense of Megatron. One could speculate
that the free-willed Black Widows' deep loyalty to Overlord
may be an after effect of their exposure to the Zone... or
they could be just plain fearful of him!
It was also great to see the Black Widows on the defensive
near the end of this episode (instead of the Zone Riders for
once). It clearly shows that Overlord feels more confident
fighting inside the Zone and prefers to send out Black
Widow Troopers (Zoned Civilians) to do the majority of the
frontline fighting with the Zone Riders.
