In
depth: At La Mesa missile base, suddenly a Zone Pod deploys,
zoning all the bases personnel. Overlord and his Black Widows
ride in to the area with Zoners and more pods. They order
the Zoners to get the warheads. Back at M.C.C., McFarland
has Dr. Becker, the designer of the base, brief the Zone Riders.
Spy photos reveal that Overlord is fitting the missiles with
zone pods to zone the rest of the world. Dr. Becker says the
only way to defeat Overlord will be to take him with them.
Courage says there is not extra suit. The Doctor says that
if he can be taken in to the base, he can defeat the missiles.
The Zone Riders agree and enter the Zone. They decoy Overlord,
but he notes that there is a dezoned hole leading to the back
up command center. Max gives the doctor five minutes to do
the work. Overlord commands a power surge to be sent through
the computers, rendering them useless.
The Doctor needs more time, and Courage tries to give it to
him. Bandit fires a Zone Drone carrying a Photon Grenade which
blinds Tank. Bandit then hijacks a tank to destroy Schmidt.
Hiro fires a perfect shot into the tank's drive belts and
sends it off course. Tank is still blinded however, but Kat
assures him he has no broken bones. They must use the tunnel
gun again and take Tank into the command center.
Overlord begins an 8 minute countdown to missile launch. Bandit
outside leads an attack as Becker instructs Tank on how to
work without sight. They restore the self-destruct missile,
but hope not to use it. Tank decides to rig the missile with
a plasma bomb and then send the missile into a zone generator.
The missile is prepared as Tank and Becker get behind a launch
shield. The missile deploys and destroys the zone generators
in spectacular style. Tank begins to get his vision back,
but the missiles are still too difficult to fix. The Black
Widows evacuate followed by Overlord. The countdown ends and
all the missiles launch! The Zone Riders search franticly
for the self destruct, but Hiro knows it is impossible from
where they are. Tank reconnects a power cord loosened by the
overload earlier and power is restored, allowing destruction
of the missiles. Kat gives Tank some glasses to wear while
reading for a week. The zone has been defeated once more as
Tank thanks Dr. Becker for showing him how to overcome his
limitations.
Items
Noticed: The M.C.C. soldiers at the beginning do a passable
imitation of drill and ceremony from the real military ("Your
left! Your left! Your left, right, left!")
While
the animation here is better than most, Courage doesn't flick
the safety switch to fire Rimfire's cannon - something A-KOM
definitely would have remembered.
Watch for some neat transitions from scene to scene in a new
way.
Notes:
Dr. Colin Becker, who is blind, is the designer of La Mesa
Missile Base.
Commander
Courage's has a "Tunnel Gun" which can form holes
in the Zone for 10 minutes at a time, though this is the first
time we see it.
This
is also a first for the Zone Drone backpack, the chunky missile
shaped projectile backpack that had been sold as an accessory
pack item.
Kat
possesses a portable x-ray screen: a handy device to have!
What
do we learn? A close-up of the soldier being zoned reveals
the 2007 UN Military Crest on their helmets.
Judging
by the radiation symbols on the warheads removed, the payload
is most likely nuclear.
Goof
ups: None apparent, except if they have a tunnel gun, why
aren't they using it more? Why have we never seen Courage
use it before?
Quotable
Quotes: "Not long to wait
for a zoned world."
- Overlord
"Awright! They can sell tickets for that ride!"
- Max after jumping his cycle over an explosion.
"You never let blindness defeat you. And you taught me
how to do it too." - Tank
