In
depth: The Zone Riders are out on night patrol near the Detroit
zone as an armored vehicle emerges from a river. Kat notes
Overlord has been kidnapping ordinary people. The vehicle
snatches two people from their bed. When M.C.C. soldiers approach,
the vehicle stuns them and gathers them up. As the Zone Riders
attack, the tank leaves. Courage grabs Rimfire but notes they
must stop the vehicle carefully so they don't hurt anyone.
Hiro attempts entry but is shocked by an electrical field.
In the Zone's border, Overlord's troops provide covering fire
as the vehicle returns inside.
Later,
at M.C.C, they discover Overlord designed the vehicle at NASA.
It can only be destroyed with massive firepower, but they
must not harm the civilians. Courage determines the vehicle
might return to the house it tried to hit last. The plan is
to have two people enter the machine and disable it from within.
Tank and Kat pack their equipment in suitcases and take up
residence at the house. Max and Hiro are bored as they sit
waiting. As the vehicle attacks, Kat and Tank lose their equipment,
except Kat who manages to keep her helmet. Kat still has a
laser scalpel however.
Finding
the abandoned equipment, Courage gives chase while Kat tries
to cut through and escape. The vehicle enters the zone and
passes Overlord who commands Bandit to attack. Dirk, Hiro
and Max are ambushed. Kat escapes the holding chamber within,
while McFarland talks to Courage about the failure of the
plan. At the home of the Nelsons, whom the Riders used, Mr.
and Mrs. Nelson are upset at the loss of their furniture and
have a heated exchange with Dirk. It turns out to provide
some information Dirk can use however.
Courage
contacts M.C.C. to find out what the missing people did before
the SPIRAL ZONE. One person in
each house used to work for General Auto Company in Detroit.
Overlord has repurposed the GAC assembly lines to turn out
more gathering vehicles. Courage determines to attack Detroit
from the other side - Canada, across the river. At the Windsor
Tunnel, Hiro scouts out the zoner presence and throws a grenade
in to stun them. Max stuns the other artillery emplacement
zoners. Courage attacks in Rimfire, while Kat finds the control
center of the vehicle which is operated by remote control.
Overlord wants the auto plant protected at all costs. Intruder
keeps after the other Zone Riders, disabling Rimfire. More
Black Widows arrive to pin down the rest. At the Detroit Automobile
Company warehouse, Overlord goes to the gatherer vehicle,
named "Beast One" once more. He radios "Beast
Two" with Kat on board to attack the Zone Riders.
Kat
takes over Beast Two and fights Overlord's Beast One while
the others attack the plant so Overlord cannot make more of
the Beast series. At the factory, Max tells the Zoners it's
quitting time and they leave. Courage then levels the factory
with a grenade blast. Beast One, containing Overlord, is incapacitated
and the others escape in Beast Two with the zoned Tank. Overlord
detonates by remote Beast Two to keep it out of Zone Rider
hands as Dirk destroys the generator.
Items
Noticed: We finally discover the reason for Overlord's helmet
- he hits his head at least three times in this episode.
Notes:
The Nelsons were auto workers in Detroit before the Zone hit,
and have been unemployed for months - the exact sort of thing
that would happen if a disaster the size of the SPIRAL
ZONE were to hit.
What
do we learn? The prototype for the collection vehicle was
a lunar excursion vehicle designed at NASA by James Bent -
before he became Overlord.
Kat
carries a bio-med kit, containing a laser scalpel.
Goof
ups: Just a small color change in Hiro's helmet as he rolls
out in front of the Beast.
Quotable
Quotes: "Hmm, I wonder what typical Americans do at night?"
